S & E Midlands Wing Cadets Complete Nigmegen
Over 20 cadets from S & E Midlands Wing took part in the 92nd Nijmegen international 4 days marches held in Nijmegen, Holland. The team consisted of cadets from numerous squadrons located all over the wing such as 1359 (Beeston), 504 (West Nottingham), 2070 (Glenfield), 126 (Derby) etc.
However before reaching their final goal of completing the Nijmegen marches, the cadets first challenge was to complete numerous 25 mile training sessions including the RAF WARMA 2 days march held at RAF Cosford totalling 50 miles and with the overall training amounting to over 200 miles.
Unfortunately, all the cadets who had turned up to the training sessions were not able to go to Nigmegen due to a limited number of places, however those who did completed the marches and an extra 5km victory parade having marched over 100 miles as part of the over 800 strong British Military Contingent.
FS Crawford from 1359 squadron , who attended Nijmegen in 2006 but was unable to complete the marches due to its first ever cancellation due to extreme weather, says, “well done to all cadets who completed the marches as it is many miles, blisters, early mornings and hard work from the initial training session to the completion of the march, but the friends you make and the good times you have make it all worth while”.
